DRAGONS BACK - HIKE
Okay so I won’t lie. I haven’t done as nearly as many hikes as I would like to have done since moving to Hong Kong. However, I have done Dragons Back hike several times now. My first, favorite thing about this hike is that it is very scenic and ends with a gorgeous beach. I love the beach at the end! What a great way to chill after a hike.
The Dragons Back hike is probably one of the most popular hikes here in Hong Kong, and is located on Hong Kong Island making it quite easy for most people to access.
Dragons Back hike lies within the Shek O Country Park and takes around a 2.5-3 hour round trip hike depending on how long you stop to enjoy the views.
The hike begins with an a seemingly endless flight of stairs and then becomes mostly flat. As you reach the top you will see Big Wave Bay beach, Shek O Golf Course and Shek O beach. Therefore don’t let the beginning put you off!
I find the best time to go is early in the morning before the intense heat arrives or during the cooler months of the year, for instance October to March.
Make sure to take plenty of water and snacks as there are no water fountains on the trail. I remember there being a washroom somewhere near the start of the trail but it was extremely smelly. Therefore, use with caution (if it is still there)!
