The Best Selective Mutism Resource

The best selective mutism resource

At the age of 4 my my son was diganosed with Selective Mutism. After serveral months seeing different professionals and little improvement I decided to invest in this manual. But did it help?

What is the Selective Mutism Resource Manual?

“The Selective Mutism Resource Manual is for anyone who needs to understand, assess or manage selective mutism, this is a comprehensive and practical manual that is grounded in behavioural psychology and anxiety management and draws on relevant research findings as well as the authors’ extensive clinical experience”. (Source The Selective mutism Resource Manual).  There is also an online resource that accompanies this Selective Mutism Resource manual. This manual is for parents, teachers and other professionals working with children with Selective Mutism

Is it worth the price? Review

I did put off buying this book for some time, due to the cost. This is my biggest regret, especially given the money spent on seeing private therapists. I used this along with other reference books about mutism. This manual covers so many aspects of Selective Mutism and in greater detail than other books. They have checklists, handouts, information sheets for parents, teachers and other professionals. It is written in a user friendly way and is divided into different sections making it easy to dip in and out.

It is by far the best book I have read about selective mutism. You learn so many strategies which can help your child. Implementing the strategies from this book has reduced some anxiety in speaking at school for our son. Our son has gone from being non-verbal to verbal with the help of this book. This book isn’t magic and requires a lot of hard work from the parent, teachers or therapist as well as the child but it gives great information and solutions. I highly recommend you buy this book and start working with the child’s school.
